As pickleball’s popularity has risen, so have the numbers of injuries our providers see in the office. While injuries cannot be completely avoided, Dr. Lederman provides a few steps below that you can take to reduce your risk of getting injured:
Stretching: One important measure is to stretch before exercising. Proper stretching can help loosen your muscles before you start playing. Focus on stretches that target your calves, hamstrings, quads, shoulders, back, and wrists.
Proper Footwear: Proper footwear is essential for providing support and stability to your feet and ankles.
Balancing and Strengthening Exercises: Exercises that focus on balance and strength can help improve your stability and confidence on your feet, especially as you increase your activity level.
Recover: It’s important to prioritize rest and recovery if you are experiencing any discomfort or tightness in specific areas after playing. Remember to listen to your body and give it the time it needs to heal.
