Many of us are used to a busy, fast-paced lifestyle and are always on the go. However, due to recent unforeseen circumstances within our community, we’ve almost been forced to slow down a little, which isn’t always a bad thing. While this can be an opportunity for some much-needed rest, a lot of us are active people that enjoy regular exercise, and sooner or later, our bodies are going to crave movement in order to maintain physical and mental health. If you’ve been struggling to try and stay active while at home, you’re not alone. Although it may seem as though your options are limited without a gym, there are plenty of ways to incorporate some movement into your new daily routine.
Living in Michigan, the weather can be quite unpredictable. On sunny spring days, try to get outdoors, whether you’re taking your dog for a walk, cycling, or going for a run. Enjoying the fresh air is a great way to boost your mood as well! If the great outdoors isn’t an option, you can always get creative with indoor workouts utilizing every day household items such as a chair, milk jug, case of water, a couch, or simply just your own body. There are many free apps and YouTube videos available to guide you through a workout, almost like having your own personal trainer! This way, you can pick and choose what kind of workout you’re in the mood for and match it with a video that matches your fitness level. Videos range from stretching, yoga, cardio, and strength training for upper body, lower body and even full body.
Finally, you can always use household chores as an excuse to get your body moving. Although it may not be everyone’s favorite activity, being stuck at home makes this the perfect time to get your spring cleaning done. There are tons of ways to make exercise a priority in your daily life while staying safe and healthy. We hope this sparks some inspiration to stay active during this challenging time!
